Хрещення Русі князем Володимиром: конструювання історичної оповіді та її доповнення православними книжниками XII–XVI ст.

Abstract

Розглянуто найдавніші текстуальні свідчення про хрещення Русі 988 р. та проаналізовано оповідь про ці події в «Повісті временних літ», котру віддавна сприймали за цілком достовірний опис. Але насправді є чимало підстав вважати цей текст спробою початку ХІІ ст. «сконструювати» історію хрещення. Більш детально досліджується питання, як і чому оповідь «Повісті» впродовж ХІІІ–XVI ст. доповнювалася додатковою інформацією – іменами, датами та різного роду повідомленнями. Звертається увага на різницю між версіями історії хрещення Русі в історичних культурах ранньомодерних України та Московії, навіть попри їх спільну текстову основу – «Повість временних літ», Церковний устав князя Володимира й літописи XІV–XV ст.The article explores the oldest textual testimonies about Christianization of Rus’ including the narrative of the Primary Chronicle. The latter text had long been considered an authentic description of the event. However, there is enough evidence to presume that it was pure construction of the 12th century author. The research, presented in this article, demonstrates how and why the narrative of the Primary Chronicle was supplemented with extra information (like names or dates) during the 13th–16th centuries. In the conclusion, the author points out the difference between the versions of the history of Christianization of Rus’ as reflected in historical cultures of Early-Modern Ukraine and Muscovy despite their common textual basis: the Primary Chronicle, the Church Statute of Prince Volodymyr, and the chronicles of the 14th–15th centuries.
