Abstract

Of 9 forms of the subfamily one species- Hippotragus leucophaeus is exterminated in the 19th century, and Oryx leucoryx, O. dammah, Addax nasomaculatus and one sub- species Hippotragus niger variani are entered in the Red Book. About 100 individuals of O. leucoryx remained in the Rub-el-Hali desert (Saudi Arabia), and 20 individuals are at the Zoo Fenix (USA). Hippotragus equinus, H. niger, Oryx gazella beisa, O. gazella gazella are still rather numerous in South-Western Africa. Breeding of Hippotraginae under conditions of reservation (Askania Nova) is suggested.
