Спростування вигадки про етнічне походження професора Броніслава Пржевальського і його діяльність

Abstract

Стаття присвячена відомому професорові, члену Харківського медичного товариства (ХМТ), завідувачу катедри оперативної хірургії та топографічної анатомії Імператорського Харківського університету (ІХУ) Броніславу Пржевальському. Із залученням нових історичних джерел, якими не користувалися дослідники, вдалося ретельно вивчити постать вченого, зламати стереотипи щодо походження Б. Пржевальського та підтвердити українське коріння медика.The paper is devoted to Bronislaw Przewalsky, the well-known professor, member of the Kharkov Medical Society and the Head of the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy of Imperial Kharkov University. Personality of the medic has been explored scantily. “Polish” origin of the doctor is particularly noteworthy, which one was denied by the authors in the paper. Basing on an analysis of sources and literature, it is defined that B. Przewalsky was a descendant of Ukrainian Cossack starshyna (higher officers). B. Przewalsky’s ancestors received the nobility from the Polish king, and later the genus changed its surname, which led to a historical tangle. Social and administrative activities of the scientist were considered in the paper, his scientific achievements and the contribution to domestic surgery were analysed.
