Abstract

The problem of reception of the ascetic views of John Climacus in the poetry by archbishop Joan Maksymovych is considered in the article. Baroque poet-hagiographer sets the task to open for contemporaries the inner spiritual side of life. He aims to revive for believers the interest in ancient practices of Christian East. The archbishop’s Joan Maksymovych application to «The Ladder of Divine Ascent» of John Climacus is aimed to bring up in parishioners the tendency to live according Evangelic traditions, to try to arouse the flame of the faith, to return those persons, who have some doubts, to the Orthodox Church.
