Чи писав Іван Мазепа листи до хрещениці Мотрі Кочубей?

Abstract

Метою дослідження-розслідування є вивчення доказів авторства листів гетьмана Івана Мазепи до хрещениці Мотрі. Завдяки проблемно-аналітичному методу автор ретельно дослідив-осмислив документи, публікації, в яких ішлося про контекст подій 1704, 1707–1708 рр. та стосунки генерального судді Василя Кочубея, членів його родини з володарем булави. Новизною матеріалу є те, що завдяки детальному огляду джерел автору вперше вдалося з’ясувати, що ініціатор доносу на правителя Гетьманщини формулював головні тези свого звинувачення без чіткого плану, в основному вже в дорозі до російських можновладців. Крім того, для зустрічі з ними він узяв низку допоміжних матеріалів, зокрема й листування Мазепи з хрещеницею. Але останнє не фігурувало в доносі. Листи були виявлені лише після арешту В. Кочубея. Інтимна кореспонденція за змістом не несла викривальної інформації про антимосковські погляди гетьмана, не свідчила про його аморальність, навпаки підтверджувала розсудливість, виваженість керманича в делікатній справі стосунків зі своєю хрещеницею. Висновки. Стаття спростовує версію про те, що насправді листи до Мотрі, хрещениці Мазепи, написав хтось із підлеглих Василя Кочубея на його прохання. Таку підробку легко було спростувати, звіривши почерк гетьмана з письмом виготовленого фальсифікату. Донощик навряд чи б наважився йти на такий крок, адже подібні дії легко викривалися та не давали йому істотних плюсів в обвинувачувальному процесі.The purpose of the publication-research is to study the evidence of the authorship of Hetman Ivan Mazepa ʼs letters to his goddaughter Motria. Using a problem-analytical method, the author meticulously researched and analyzed documents and publications concerning the context of events of 1704, 1707–1708, and the relationships of general judge Vasyl Kochubey and his family members with the Hetman. The scientific novelty of the material lies in the detailed review of sources, which allowed the author to discover for the first time that the initiator of the denunciation against the hetman of the Hetmanate formulated the main points of his accusation without a clear plan. In addition, for the meeting with them, he brought a number of supplementary materials, including Mazepaʼs correspondence with his goddaughter. However, the latter did not appear in the denunciation. Letters were discovered only after the arrest of V. Kochubey. The intimate correspondence did not contain incriminating information about the Hetmanʼs anti- Moscow views, nor did it testify to his immorality; on the contrary, it confirmed his prudence and balance in the delicate matter of his relationship with his goddaughter. Conclusions. The article refutes the version that letters to Motria, Mazepaʼs goddaughter, were actually written by someone from Vasyl Kochubeyʼs subordinates at his request. Such a forgery would have been easily disproven by comparing the hetmanʼs handwriting with that of the fabricated forgery. The informant would hardly have dared to take such a step, as such actions were easily exposed and did not give him significant advantages in the accusatory process.
