"Сіверський архієпископ" та опальний митрополит Ісайя (Копинський) як натхненник козацьких повстань та чернечого відродження в Україні у XVІI ст.

Abstract

Митрополит Ісайя Копинський, лишаючись найменш дослідженою постаттю української церковної історії XVII ст., залишив незгладимий слід в українській духовно-культурній спадщині. Очоливши процес духовного відродження в дуже непростий і суперечливий період, він суттєво, хоча й неоднозначно, вплинув на хід багатьох історичних подій у країні. Серед безперечних заслуг Ісайї Копинського була активна участь у створенні Києво-Братського монастиря й однойменної школи при ньому, у відродженні православної ієрархії і православного чернецтва в Україні, в оцерковленні українського козацтва та долученні його до боротьби під гаслами оборони православної віри. Він мав серйозні ідейні суперечки з іншим видатним діячем тієї епохи – митрополитом Петром Могилою, а конфлікт між обома митрополитами іноді набирав трагічних рис. Водночас, це не дає підстав викреслювати ім'я Ісайї Копинського з історії або ж огульно очорняти і засуджувати його з метою виправдати ті чи інші дії його опонентів.

Metropolitan Isaiah Kopinsky is the least investigated figure in the Ukrainian church history of the XVII century. At the same time, he left an indelible mark on Ukrainian spiritual and cultural heritage and history. It is he who led the process of spiritual revival in a very difficult and contradictory period, significantly, albeit ambiguously, influencing the course of many historical events in the country. Isaiah Kopinsky at the beginning of the 17th century was one of the founders of the Gostinsky Monastery in Priluchchyna, then he was Archbishop of Smolensk and Chernihiv, later Metropolitan of Kiev, Galician, and All Russia. He subsequently accepted the unusual title of «Archbishop of Seversky and Zadniprovsky» and headed the inter-church opposition to Metropolitan Peter Mohyla. He was also the first rector and compiler of the Kyiv-Bratsk Monastery, as well as the Kyiv-Bratsk School with him. He also initiated the restoration of the Orthodox hierarchy in the Rzeczpospolita in 1620. Among the indisputable merits of Isaiah Kopinsky was the baptism of the Ukrainian Cossacks and his annexation to the struggle under the slogans of the defense of the Orthodox faith. Isaiah Kopinsky had serious ideological disputes with another prominent figure of that era – metropolitan Peter Mogila, and the conflict between the two metropolitans, sometimes recruiting tragic rice. At the same time, this does not give grounds to denote the name of Isaiah Kopinsky in history, or blatantly condemn and condemn him in an attempt to justify those or other actions of his opponents. In order to restore historical justice, it is necessary to impartially approach historical characters and events that occurred during the described period. After all, both saints, in spite of all their differences, genuinely defended Orthodoxy in Ukraine, and each of them made a significant contribution to its revival after the events of the Brest Union in 1596.
