Abstract

Ця стаття — своєрідний науковий і соціальний портрет унікальної особистості, великого вченого, організатора науки, видатного державного і громадського діяча Президента Національної академії наук України академіка НАН України Бориса Євгеновича Патона. Розглянуто його внесок у дослідження основоположної проблеми з’єднання матеріалів, у новаторські науково-технічні прориви в галузі електрозварювання на землі, у воді та космосі, винайдення способу з'єднання живих тканин при хірургічному втручанні, у розбудову Національної академії наук України як головного вітчизняного і визнаного міжнародного наукового центру, у формування національної наукової системи в Україні, а також його відповідальну громадянську позицію у складних і доленосних для українського народу соціальних ситуаціях.

This article is a scientific and social portrait of a unique person, a great scientist, organizer of science, an outstanding state and public figure the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Academician of NAS of Ukraine Boris Paton. His contribution to the study of the fundamental problem of compounding materials, the innovative scientific and technological breakthroughs in the field of electric welding on the ground, in water and space, the invention of the method of connecting living tissues during surgical intervention, and the development of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine as the main domestic and the recognized international scientific center, the formation of a national scientific system in Ukraine, as well as his responsible civilian position in the difficult and fateful social situations of the Ukrainian people.
