Проголошення незалежності Болгарії в публікаціях газети «Киевлянин»

Abstract

Метою статті є вивчення особливостей сприйняття Болгарії в суспільній думці Російської імперії на прикладі газети «Киевлянин». Методологічну основу дослідження складає конструктивістський підхід та поняття «образу» як форми суб’єктивної репрезентації тих чи інших явищ. За допомогою обраної методології, а також методів дискурс-аналізу та контент-аналізу, у дослідженні виявляються головні особливості сприйняття факту проголошення незалежності Болгарії, а також чинники, що впливали на їхнє формування. Новизна роботи полягає в спробі вивчення сприйняття Болгарії у Російській імперії на прикладі її регіональної преси із залученням конструктивістської методології. Висновки. Проголошення незалежності Болгарії не мало однозначних оцінок у публікаціях газети «Киевлянин». Країна могла одночасно отримувати як співчуття через конфлікт зі своїм османським сюзереном, так і нищівну критику щодо різкого рішення проголосити незалежність. Амбівалентне сприйняття події було пов’язане з суперечністю двох важливих тенденцій, які впливали на публікації видання: вкоріненими в суспільстві панславістськими уявленнями та негативним сприйняттям Османської імперії з одного боку, а з іншого – необхідністю враховувати чинні зовнішньополітичні пріоритети Російської імперії. Відтак конструювалися два цілком протилежні образи Болгарії. Образу сильної та суверенної держави, а також образу країни з обмеженим суверенітетом, яка діє на користь інших держав усупереч власним інтересам.

The aim of the article is to examine peculiarities of Bulgaria’s perception in the public opinion of the Russian Empire, using the newspaper “Kievlyanin” as a case study. The methodological framework of the research is based on the constructivist approach and the concept of “image” as a form of subjective representation of various phenomena. Through the selected methodology, as well as discourse analysis and content analysis, the research identifies the key features of the perception of Bulgaria’s declaration of independence and factors that influenced its formation. The novelty of the work lies in the attempt to analyze Bulgaria’s perception in the society of the Russian Empire through the lens of its regional press, employing a constructivist methodology. Conclusions. The proclamation of Bulgaria’s independence did not receive any unambiguous assessment in “Kievlyanin”. The country simultaneously elicited both sympathy in the context of its conflict with its Ottoman suzerain and severe criticism for its abrupt decision to declare independence. This ambivalent perception was linked to the contradiction between two significant tendencies that shaped the newspaper’s evaluations: on the one hand, the deeply rooted Pan-Slavist ideas and the negative perception of the Ottoman Empire; on the other hand, the necessity to consider the foreign policy priorities of the Russian Empire. As a result, “Kievlyanin” constructed two entirely opposite images of Bulgaria – one as a strong and sovereign state, and the other one as a country with limited sovereignty, acting in the interests of foreign powers rather than its own.
