Великий Луг як символ української ідентичності

Abstract

Метою статті є актуалізація історико-географічного дослідження Великого Лугу – історичної місцевості у Дніпровських плавнях, осередку українського козацтва та простору свободи запорожців. Увага акцентується на репрезентації Великого Лугу як одного із головних символів національної ідентичності, унікального місця, яке визначало українську історію та рухало її вперед, закладаючи підвалини майбутнього розвитку Української держави. Саме тому сьогодні РФ прагне стерти цю пам’ять з історії України, позбавити український народ свого коріння, нівелювати прагнення українців бути самостійним та окремим етносом із власною традицією державотворення. Методологія дослідження базується на застосуванні етнологічної парадигми, в контексті якої Великий Луг розглядається не просто в якості топоніму, що позначає природний об’єкт, а як естетично сприйняте середовище проживання, український світ, батьківщина, поетичний образ та елемент міфології. Основні результати дослідження полягають в осмисленні унікальності Великого Лугу, визначенні його географічного ареалу та динаміки історичного розвитку. Аналізуються питання пов’язані з появою історичної місцевості, роллю Великого Лугу в формуванні українського козацтва, наслідками створення Каховського водосховища у 50-х рр. ХХ ст. Обґрунтовується думка про те, що затоплення місць, на яких були розташовані Січі запорожців, спричинило знищення національної свідомості та історичної пам’яті, стало справжньою трагедією для українського народу. У висновках доведено, що феномен Великого Лугу полягає не лише в специфічних особливостях його природо-географічних характеристик, а передусім у впливі на національну ідентичність українців. На цій території формувалися поняття козацької естетики та звитяги, тому серед чинників, які умотивовували економічну доцільність її затоплення була й ідеологічна мета – знищити пам’ять про місце сили запорізьких козаків. Сьогодні Українська держава повинна докласти максимальних зусиль для збереження та відродження Великого Лугу – сакрального місця національного спротиву та вільного життя, яке було варварськи зруйноване внаслідок підриву Каховської ГЕС 6 червня 2023 року.

The purpose of the article is to update the historical and geographical research of Velykyy Luh (the Great Meadow) – a historical area in the Dnipro floodplains, the center of Ukrainian Cossacks and the space of freedom of the Zaporozhian people. Attention is focused on the representation of the Great Meadow as one of the main symbols of national identity, a unique place that defined Ukrainian history and moved it forward, laying the foundations for the future development of the Ukrainian state. That is why today the Russian Federation seeks to erase this memory from the history of Ukraine, to deprive the Ukrainian people of their roots, to level the aspirations of Ukrainians to be an independent and separate ethnic group with its own tradition of state-building. The research methodology is based on the application of the ethnological paradigm, in the context of which Velykyy Luh is considered not just as a toponym denoting a natural object, but also as an aesthetically perceived habitat, the Ukrainian world, the homeland, a poetic image and an element of mythology. The main results of the study are to understand the uniqueness of the Great Meadow, to determine its geographical range and the dynamics of its historical development. Issues related to the emergence of the historical area, the role of Velykyy Luh in the formation of the Ukrainian Cossacks, and the consequences of the creation of the Kahovsky Reservoir in the 1950s are analyzed. The opinion is substantiated that the flooding of the places where the Sichi Zaporozhians were located caused the destruction of national consciousness and historical memory, and became a real tragedy for the Ukrainian people. The conclusions prove that the phenomenon of the Great Meadow lies not only in the specific features of its natural and geographical characteristics, but primarily in its influence on the national identity of Ukrainians. The concepts of Cossack aesthetics and achievements were formed on this territory, therefore, among the factors that motivated the economic expediency of its flooding was the ideological goal – to destroy the memory of the place of power of the Zaporozhian Cossacks. Today, the Ukrainian state must make maximum efforts to preserve and revive Velykyy Luh – a sacred place of national resistance and free life, which was barbarically destroyed as a result of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP on June 6, 2023.
