Південно-Західний відділ РГТ: новаторські дослідницькі практики і науково-організаційні здобутки

Abstract

У статті йдеться про видатні здобутки одного з найраніших науково-організаційних центрів народознавчої науки в Україні – Південно-Західного відділу Російського географічного товариства. Його заснування й функціонування пов’язані з ініціативами та діяльністю фундатора вітчизняної етнографії П. П. Чубинського, 180-річчя з дня народження якого відзначається в поточному році. Хоча наукова спадщина вченого знайшла різнобічну характеристику в народознавчій науці як попередніх століть, так і сучасності, проте його роль в інституалізації етнології, у створенні спеціалізованого народознавчого осередку, а головне – у всебічному вивченні новаторського наукового внеску цього дослідницького центру залишається недостатньо висвітленою. А між тим Південно-Західний відділ РГТ, попри його коротке, всього трьохрічне функціонування, виріс, за оцінкою дослідників, до рівня повноцінного наукового центру національного академічного значення, який фактично згуртував вітчизняних науковців-гуманітаріїв довкола питань усебічного вивчення України. Його діяльність з вивчення культури та побуту народу, соціальних аспектів життєзабезпечення здійснювалася не безсистемно, а цілеспрямовано, на базі добре апробованих програм, важливих, державницького змісту проектів. Продовжуючи розвивати напрацювання попередників, Відділ започатковував нові дослідницькі напрями, студіюючи звичаєве право, побут сільськогосподарського і промислового робітництва, застосовуючи нові підходи до вивчення матеріальної культури, ініціюючи розвиток етнічної статистики. Розвідка репрезентує едиційну практику Відділу, подає розлогу характеристику тематики та змісту публікацій профільних видань Відділу – «Записки Юго-Западного отдела РГО».The proposed article is about the outstanding achievements of the South-Western Department of the Russian Geographical Society as one of the earliest scientific-organizing centres of ethnological science in Ukraine. We are obliged to the initiatives and activities of Pavlo Chubynskyi, known as the founder of Ukrainian ethnography, in its establishment and functioning. The scholar’s 180th anniversary of birthday is commemorated this year. Though the researcher's scientific heritage is closely characterized in the ethnological science of both the previous centuries and contemporaneity, his significance in the ethnology institutionalisation, creation of the specialized ethnological cell, and above all in the thorough study of the innovatory contribution of this scientific centre is still described insufficiently. Nevertheless South-Western Department of the Russian Geographical Society, despite its short functioning for only three years, has developed into a level of valuable scientific nucleus of national academic significance, according to the estimates of the researchers. It has united the scientists in the humanities of the whole of Ukraine around the issues of a thorough study of Ukraine. Its activity concerning the investigation of people's culture and life, social aspects of life has been realized not unsystematically, but purposefully, on the basis of well-probated programmes, important projects of statehood matter. Carrying on the development of the forerunners' heritage, the Department has initiated new research trends, studying customary law, the life of agricultural and industrial workers, using new approaches to the investigation of material culture, and ethnic statistics. Publishing practical experience of the Department is represented in the research. A wide characteristic of the themes and content of the published works in the profile editions of the Department – Proceedings of the South-Western Department of the Russian Geographical Society – is proposed.
