Abstract

Аналіз автобіографії зачинателя руху старчества прп. Паїсія Величковського (1722–1794) має на меті виявити наративні стратегії письменника, що відображають його концепцію християнської аскези. Методом контекстуального аналізу встановлюється місце духовного пошуку Величковського за умов просвітницького абсолютизму, коли релігійні інститути інтегруються в державні структури, а монаше служіння втрачає споглядальний характер. Це дозволяє по-новому оцінити повчальний підтекст спогадів автора про його життєву драму як переможний бунт шукача автентичної аскези проти формалізації церковного життя. З цього випливає висновок про доктринальний характер спогадів, які розгортають динамічну альтернативу стагнації одержавленого православ’я в творенні простору духовної свободи, що лишається в автобіографії недосягненою метою.Analysis of the autobiography of the founder of the eldership movement Paisiy Velichkovsky (1722– 1794) aims to reveal the writerʼs narrative strategies that reflect his concept of Christian asceticism. The method of contextual analysis establishes the place of Velychkovskyʼs spiritual search under the conditions of enlightened absolutism, when religious institutions are integrated into state structures, and monastic service loses its contemplative character. This allows us to evaluate in a new way the instructive subtext of the authorʼs memories of his life drama as a victorious rebellion of a seeker of authentic asceticism against the formalization of church life. From this follows the conclusion about the doctrinal character of the memories, which unfold a dynamic alternative to the stagnation of the stateizated Orthodoxy in the creation of a space of spiritual freedom, which remains an unachieved goal in the autobiography.
