До питання про «руські письмена» в Житії Костянтина Філософа. 1

Abstract

У статті наводяться різні точки зору дослідників щодо «руських письмен» у житії Костянтина Філософа. Відзначається достовірність відомостей у житії Костянтина. Зіставляються уривок про «руські письмена» із житія Костянтина і уривок про «слов’янські книги» із житія Мефодія (ці уривки автор статті вважає паралельними, спільними місцями обох житій) і робиться висновок, що «руські письмена» були слов’янськими письменами. Повідомлення в ряді джерел про переклад Костянтином (або Костянтином і Мефодієм) Святого Письма з грецької мови на руську розцінюються як ототожнення руської мови зі слов’янською. Робиться висновок, що давньослов’янська книжна мова первісно (до XI ст.) називалася руською або слов’янською (обидві назви вживалися як синоніми). Обґрунтовується положення, що в давнину руським письмом називали глаголичне письмо.

The author discusses various viewpoints upon «Rus’ian letters» mentioned in the Biography (Zhytije) of Constantine (Cyrill) the Philosopher. Emphasizing the reliability of the Biography as historical source and comparing the fragment on «Rus’ian letters» in it with the fragment on «Slavonic books» in the Methodius’s Biography, he argues that they are the same fragments shared by the two Biographies, and the «Rus’ian letters» were Slavonic ones. Interpreting some sources’ mention of the translation by Constantine (or both Constantine and Methodius) of the Holy Scriptures from Greek into Rus’ian, he identifies the Rus’ian language with the Slavonic, and infers that bookish Old Slavonic was originally (before the 11th ct.) called Rus’ian or Slavonic, the names being synonymous. Also, he substantiates his hypothesis that in ancient times, the Glagolitic alphabet was called Rus’ain.
