Цифровізація документальної спадщини Києво-Печерської лаври: виклики та перспективи

Abstract

Стаття присвячена аналізу проблем збереження документальної спадщини Києво-Печерської лаври через оцифрування її документальних фондів. Розглянуто 16 тематичних колекцій, їх зміст, а також виклики, пов’язані з розпорошеністю документів, їхнім фізичним станом і необхідністю забезпечення сучасним обладнанням процесу оцифрування. Обґрунтовано необхідність створення електронної бібліотеки «Документальна пам’ять Києво-Печерської лаври» під координацією Національного заповідника «Києво-Печерська лавра» для інтеграції фондів у єдиний цифровий репозитарій, забезпечення доступу та довготривалого збереження. Проаналізовано організаційні й технічні аспекти реалізації проєкту, його потенціал для науки та популяризації спадщини.The article is devoted to analyzing the challenges of preserving the documentary heritage of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra through the digitization of its documentary funds. It examines 16 thematic collections, their content, and the issues related to the dispersal of documents, their physical condition, and the need for modern equipment to support the digitization process. The necessity of establishing an electronic library, «Documentary Memory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra», under the coordination of the National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Preserve, is substantiated to integrate the funds into a unified digital repository, ensuring accessibility and long-term preservation. Unlike existing studies, which often focus on general digitization trends or theoretical frameworks, this research offers a novel approach by addressing the specific challenges of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra – such as the fragmentation of Fund 128 and the technical demands of digitizing fragile 17th– 18th-century Old Slavic manuscript – and proposing a practical solution through a centralized digital platform with standardized metadata (METS, Dublin Core). The organizational and technical aspects of the project’s implementation are analyzed, along with its potential for scientific research and heritage promotion. The study highlights that the documentary heritage, stored primarily in the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine (Fund 128), reflects the multifaceted activities of the monastery from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Key challenges include the fragility of manuscripts, requiring high-resolution scanning (600 dpi) and specialized OCR software, as well as the lack of a unified database among key institutions (e.g., TsDIAK, NBUV, and the Preserve), which hinders metadata standardization. The proposed electronic library aims to address these issues by creating a comprehensive digital platform, adhering to international standards, and integrating the Lavra’s heritage into global systems like Europeana. This initiative will not only safeguard the materials but also enhance their scientific, educational, and touristic value, reinforcing the Lavra’s role as a cornerstone of Ukrainian heritage. Future research should focus on upgrading equipment, developing metadata standards, and fostering international collaboration with UNESCO and similar entities.
