Abstract

Лентвійт у містах Волині мав важливе значення, оскільки саме він дуже часто заступав війта, виконуючи як судові так і інші функції по управлінню міста. Зазвичай свій уряд лентвійт отримував як плату за служіння війту, або ж брав його в оренду чи заставу. Лентвійт пильнував порядку у місті, слідкував за дотриманням моральних норм, інколи йому доручали стягнення з міщан заборгованості. За своїм соціальним та національним походженням лентвійти здебільшого були місцевими міщанами, хоча траплялися шляхтичі-поляки. Відомі випадки суміщення уряду лентвійта з раєцьким/бурмистровським. На своїх урядах лентвійти перебували різний час – від кількох місяців до багатьох років. Маючи у руках значну владу, лентвійти подеколи нею зловживали.Landvogt in the Volhynian played a significant role because very often he was a substitute of the vogt, performed judicial and other functions of public administration. Usually landvogt received his position as a remuneration for the auxiliary service to the vogt, or took it out for rent or bail. Landvogt kept order in the town and monitored moral standards, sometimes he was instructed to collect debts from the townspeople. According to their social and national origin, the landvogts were mostly local burgers, although there were Polish noblemen among them. There were cases of the combination of posts: both of landvogt and councillor / burgomaster. Landvogts stayed in office from several months to many years. Because landvogts had in their hands considerable power, they sometimes abused it.
